Restaurants and cafes

Saintes is a lively city, full of cultural and historical riches, life is sweet there and we share here with joy the addresses where we like to stop for a tea or a meal. This page will be updated regularly, please check the opening hours on the respective sites of the addresses mentioned.

Restaurant The unusual - 28 Rue Saint-Michel, 17100 Saintes

We go there very regularly, often for lunch, a favorite for the evening discovery menu as well. The dishes are refined, tasty and inventive. Based on local products, the chef constantly renews himself and the service in the dining room is irreproachable. An address where mastery and rigor go hand in hand with creativity and concern for satisfaction. (reservation essential for lunch and dinner)

Restaurant L'Iode - 89 avenue Gambetta 17100 Saintes

A generous and gourmet seafood cuisine with fresh, local and seasonal products. The chef, originally from the island of Oléron, cut his teeth alongside Philippe Etchebest for several years before recently settling in Saintes. The dishes are creative, neat and tasty, special mention for the starter-main course-dessert formula for lunch at 21 euros. (reservation essential for lunch and dinner)

La Musardière - 29 Rue Alsace-Lorraine 17100 Saintes

Tea room, roastery, restaurant, place of meetings and concerts, La Musardière is an emblematic place of the city, people come there to buy coffee or tea from all over the world, to have a sweet break, brunch, lunch. Warm inside or out in the back in Marcel's garden, on sunny days in the courtyard of the Musée de l'Échevinage, the setting is splendid, part of the building dates back to the 15th century. It is worth taking a look at the site to find out about the next concerts and meetings taking place there: to the website of La Musardière.

La Graine d'Orge - 2 bis Rue Palissy, 17100 Saintes

Bar and beer cellar, it is the landmark of all locals to meet up with friends or family. Here the atmosphere is ultra friendly and it is not uncommon to get to know your table neighbours, especially on sunny days when everyone is relaxed outside around large wooden tables and old barrels. If the selection of beers is exceptional, we must also mention the famous dish of homemade fries to be dipped in a roasted camembert, a favorite at all ages, and which alone sums up the spirit of the place: authenticity and sharing.
